How Pilates Improves Posture

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to try out Pilates. I always thought I had good posture. I did ballet eons ago and thought, pilates would be a walk in the park. Later did I know that my posture was all wrong. I demonstrated to a friend my natural walking and sitting  posture — chin up, chest out, straight back. And after trying out pilates, I guess I know see myself as that similar to a hen with its tush being left behind.

At a pilates studio in Makati, I got first hand information from Vivian Zapanta herself what good posture is all about. It’s embarrassing to note as well, she seemed much stronger and fitter than yours truly. I felt like a bag of flab standing next to her.

Pilates 101. Vivian teaches me the importance of a strong core.
Pilates 101. Vivian teaches me the importance of a strong core. As you can see, I am trying to muzzle my nervousness through giggling. I haven’t had a workout in a long, long time and I am in danger of being found out. Ssshhh…

Vivian explains the connection of having a strong core to arm strength.

“A stronger and firmer core means stronger arms and legs.”

Guess, I’ll have to say au revoir to my wine, cheese and chocolate parties. It’s truly a sad day for Paula-Land ;-(

Pavement Diaries

Thursday, March 14, 2013 Earlier, I was contemplating of hitting the pavement or just staying at home and just do strength training. That was earlier. Once I got worked up with my training, I figured why not push myself, so I laced up and hit the pavement. Today was a good run. All the way from the house, all around Greenbelt, Ayala and back.

Note to self: buy new shoes. Right shoe already gave way.

My pre-workout meal:
Couscous (something I got from the fridge)
Banana (Because my doctor told me to load up on potassium for my digestion)
Tea (also doctor’s orders)
Yakult (Coz its sweet, period.)

I was watching the History channel when I started to warm up. At first, my plan was just to do weights and carry on with what I was doing earlier. But I got so worked up; I knew I would never regret if I started now.

Instead of packing water, I brought with me my oolong tea which I brewed yesterday. It was chilled before I stepped out the door, so it was surprisingly refreshing!

Reasons Why I Hit the Pavement:
I am able to use my time efficiently
I am always refreshed after a good run
I feel stronger
I have a reason to get out of the house
I have a reason to give my eyes and laptop a rest
I sleep better
It makes me feel good

Thoughts:
With endorphins soaring, I am ready to hit the shower and get back to work.

I am really looking forward to the run me and my friends are going to have next month. It’s going to be awesome! I finally have someone to run with 🙂

Running, like everything in my life, are all self motivated. I have to get off my ass and start moving. Life is just too short and I have no plans of wasting it.

Prancing about Greenbelt, Makati

I have come to really like my afternoon runs/walks. I usually just loiter about Makati in my sweats with camera in tow.

This afternoon, I changed my route. I was getting tired of the park so I tried going where the people were: the mall. (evil snicker)

Aside from the health is wealth cliché when it comes to running,  another reason why I run is so that I have reason to take a shower. Otherwise, I would be in my pj’s all day. (But that’s between you and me ok? Promise? Good.)

The thing with my out-and-about’s is that the pollution is terrible. I don’t mind the humidity, noise or the smell — its the pollution that’s gonna kill me in this fabulous city.

Well, you can’t have it all.

Anyway, when I got to Greenbelt, I saw a country singer, horses and rabbit tourists.

Don’t believe me? Check out what my camera caught.

Country singer in the house! Not. But you've gotta give him credit for being so brave flying solo, literally!
