Expect fireworks this October as the World Poker Tour and Solaire create a poker experience the likes of which have never been witnessed in the Philippines.

WPT and Solaire Resort and Casino Team Up for Momentous Poker Festival

On October 16-28, the poker world will turn its attention to the Philippines as the World Poker Tour® makes its first official stop in the country for the WPT® National Philippines at Solaire Resort and Casino.

Easily the most recognizable poker brand on the planet, the WPT has been instrumental in catapulting the likes of Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu and lone Filipino WPT Champions Club member Noli Francisco on the poker world map, and this momentous undertaking in the western Pacific will shift the entire spotlight on the archipelago and its vast pool of local talent. WPT National Philippines will be the first stop in a brand new, mutually beneficial five-year relationship between the World Poker Tour and a country long regarded as one of Asia’s poker hotbeds.

“The World Poker Tour continues to expand across the globe, and the Philippines is a luxurious destination,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “Solaire Resort and Casino is a first-class venue where both local and foreign players will have a great time on and off of the felt.”

Solaire is a casino powerhouse in the Philippines, and a perfect venue for the World Poker Tour to host a near two-week long WPT Poker Festival. A private paradise, Solaire offers luxury style and comfort with world-class bayside villas, suites and deluxe rooms.

“We are constantly creating ways for our guests to have the ultimate resort experience, so hosting the largest and most recognizable poker tour in the world only comes naturally for us. Solaire is about creating moments, and the WPT is going to provide many powerful moments for everyone involved.” says Thomas Arasi, President and Chief Operating Officer, Solaire Resort and Casino.

This unprecedented partnership was brokered by promoter Mike Kim, a Korean-American who has established himself as one of poker’s most recognized visionaries.

“The Philippines has always been the hub for this region, whether it’s for travel, trade or culture,” said Mike Kim, “so it just makes complete sense to have an international event in a country that has so much more to offer than any other destination in Asia.”

Highlighting the festivities is the Main Event, where players from across the globe will compete for big cash prizes and points in the coveted Season XIII WPT Player of the Year race. The $2,200 buy-in event kicks off on October 25, and there are a myriad of exciting side events planned for the WPT Poker Festival, including a much-anticipated High Roller.

WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage, poker legend Mike Sexton, and the Royal Flush Girls are among the contingent arriving in famed Manila Bay for the endeavor.

Satellites starting as low as 300 PHP to the Main Event are ongoing at Solaire’s lush poker room. Details of all satellites and a full schedule of events can be found on Solaire’s website.

Expect fireworks this October as the World Poker Tour and Solaire create a poker experience the likes of which have never been witnessed in the Philippines.

Forbes Bonanza 2014 a hit among young entrepreneurs

Brgy. Forbes Park, Makati City holds its first summer event for the year called Forbes Bonanza 2014.

The brain-child of Anthony Yupangco of Tutto Domani, who heads the livelihood program of the barangay, has one goal in mind:  to unite the community and for its residents to be active participants in their programs.

The two day event featured a number of up and coming entrepreneurs in the field of design, food and clothing who generously gave their time and resources to participate in the event.

Below are just some of the major take-aways from the event.

Light Bearer Chronicles: Rebelling Against a Cynical Generation

Yes, We Can (44th/52)
Hope more, it kills cynicism.

We live in a jaded generation. Today’s generation is so uninspired, jaded and already dead it shows on so many levels: marriage, work, friendships, business, the concept of having kids, the opposite sex, money, love, you name it, and these cynical men and women have an air-tight, unsolicited response to each.

As a result, their negativity brings upon a society that does only the bare minimum. There is no bigger purpose left aside from making more money and harnessing more power to support their already exploding egos.

I come across so many people that say they’ve been there, done that and that nothing surprises them anymore. Such people treat life like it was some curse and in my annoying sense of humor, I retaliate: “If you’ve seen it all, wouldn’t it be grand if you’d just do everybody a favor and disappear entirely?”

People who think this way feel that they have learned everything about life and that there is nothing else to learn and do except “infect” others with their disease. That describes this generation of soulless life-sucking entities who drift along this life.

The Reason Behind the Cynicism

Is there a reason for this? Perhaps being raised with absolutely no values, no morals, and practicing instant gratification does this to people. Plus the fact that we are conditioned at a certain age to rebel against our parents (who are our first line of authority figures as we grow up) as possible things to consider.

I remember looking around and thinking “If these people are the future, we are all screwed”. I keep hoping that if I had a kid it would rebel from this way of life. To be good according to Jesus’ standards, to appreciate the beauty of life and pursue what is right. To live a life he or she can be proud of: clean, just and moral.

If you want to see real human beings, go down to your local nursery. Look at the way the kids play together, how they share and communicate and spend five minutes doing that. Nice isn’t it?

We weren’t always this ugly.

Wayne W. Dyer said it best: Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world”.

How about you? How can you rise above the negativity, cynicism and ugliness?
