Lightbearer Chronicles: Prayer and Fasting Week (Day 3)

Fasting & Prayer
Fasting & Prayer

You prove your worth with your actions, not with your mouth

How timely for this quote. If you noticed, I don’t have Day 2. This is because I have failed Him miserably. Another day, another chance.

I am on Day 3 and the Lord has not given up on me yet.

Lightbearer Chronicles: Prayer and Fasting Week (Day 1)

The Lord's Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Since the beginning of the year, I have been looking forward to this fast.

I have dined indulgently over the holidays, and now it was time to not only “cleanse” myself but to spend my days in solemn prayer. This fasting and prayer season is very significant to me as I believe the Lord will reveal to me the things that ‘control’ me and teach me how to get rid of those idols.  I want to hold myself back from what I am used to and be stripped down to the basics. It’s only day one and I am feeling temptation already. My diet so far today has been water and fruit juices only. I am praying and hoping that the Lord will give me the strength to finish through with my oath.

Some of the things I picked up from learning more about fasting and prayer last Sunday:

The Purpose of Fasting:
More than anything else, fasting reveals what controls us.
Fasting reduces the power of self…
Your soul is stuffed with so many things, there is no room for the great.
Prayer is foundational, like breathing air.

The Challenge of the Fast:
You overestimate oneself and underestimate God too much.
The third day is the hardest and most difficult part of fasting
Golden Idols: Ministry, Indulgence, Lack of Self-Control
You FAST from people, TV, internet, food…etc.
Talk less, pray more.
Worry less, pray more.

Bible Verses
I CLAIM this Week of Fasting and Prayer:

Luke 11:2
-4 (Disciples Prayer)
2 And He said to them, ‘When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. 3 ‘Give us each day our daily bread. 4 ‘And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.’

Luke 11:9-10
9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
